Jerry Wayne Secrist went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 28, 2019 at age 73. Jerry was born to Mary Frances and Holly Therald Secrist on June 27, 1946 in Pace, Florida. Jerry earned a double major in business and computer science at Houston Baptist University. He worked for Monsanto in Pensacola, FL for 17 years before landing a job at Shell Oil Company in Houston, TX where he worked for 23 years in Research & Development as a chemist. Jerry met the love of his life Nancy, in Houston at Second Baptist Church. They married July 4, 1990 in a beautiful ceremony on Keuka Lake in Upstate New York.
After retiring in 2004 from Shell, Jerry and Nancy moved to Sun City and Jerry decided to go back to school, the school of golf. If there were ever a true student of the game it was Jerry. He absolutely loved it. He was a member of the Mens Golf Association in Sun City for 11 years until he could no longer play but that did not stop him from teaching anyone who would listen. Jerry had every new golf club and accessory, he read every golf book and of course there were the clothes. The man could shop. “Jerry Shopping” is legendary in our family. Jerry could rival even the best bargain hunter. His taste was superior and everything he had was top quality but he managed to find it well over half off or more, every single time. Think of Jerry next time you score a great deal and know he will be smiling down from heaven.
Jerry and Nancy attended Bible Study and Church for 14 years at First Baptist Georgetown and more recently at The Worship Place in Sun City. Before moving to Georgetown, Jerry and Nancy were also members of Second Baptist Church in Houston for 16 years. Jerry was a member of the Sun City Kiwanis Club and enjoyed helping with their annual garage sale. Jerry loved Texas and Alabama football, classic cars and his home in Sun City. He especially loved going to the Georgetown Square, particularly at Christmas time.
Jerry was an incredibly loving husband, father, stepfather and grandfather. Jerry’s faith and love for the Lord is as rock solid as it comes. He suffered greatly on this earth but he never complained. He simply knew that God had a reason for his illness and that was enough for him. The way Jerry lived his life was the most beautiful testament and the ultimate witness. How lucky we all were to have Jerry in our lives.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Holly and Mary Frances, his brother, Mike and sister, Joanne. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife Nancy, his son Troy Secrist, his stepdaughter Brittany King and his stepson Jake Wettman along with his most favorite people on earth, his grandchildren Emersyn (15), Easyn (13) Ellasyn (12), Nate (13), Evie (10), Laurel (11) and Carter (8). He also leaves behind his constant companion and favorite napping partner, Bonnie.
Pastor Kelly Barnett will officiate at the celebration of Jerry’s life at ten o’clock in the morning, the 9th of December, at The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd, Georgetown, TX 78633.
